Add custom menu used memory color
I particularly like to have the little bar graph in the toolbar. It's surprising what apps and operations use a lot of RAM - not always what you'd expect.
I have 16 GB RAM and when I'm editing video, I like to be sure some is free. The bar graph is ideal for that - and when usage gets dangerously high (you can set the parameters) the app will automatically clean the memory, to keep operations running smoothly.
It's also a very useful tool to check your RAM usage and indicate whether you should really install more (or not).
icleanmemory sits in your menu bar with a little bar graph icon that shows how much RAM applications are gobbling up. The bar graph shows you how much memory you're using. Click on the icon and it tells you how much free memory you have left.
Some apps just don't clean out the memory bank when you close them and, as a result, your Mac slows down.
When that happens I click on the icon and Optmize Memory and, 30 seconds later, I'm back to working at normal speed.
It's simple, it works, it gives you the option of a quick, 5 second, clean (not as thorough, but fast) and I wouldn't be without it.
A dozen or more background applications running, four or more running up front, and not all of them are playing fair with the RAM you've got.
iCleanMemory sits there in the menu bar and tells you in bright red when you're running out and need to do something and it does it very well.
Why only four stars? Because I have to get iCleanMemory to do the cleaning. What is needed is threshold cleaning, i.e. when what's left falls below a user-defined limit then iCleanMemory does its job with no manual intervention on my part. That way I can get on with working.
Bottom line - it does its job and does it well.
